A Euro 2016 winner with Portugal, Moutinho started 31 times for Monaco last year and is now pitching up at Molineux. He’s certainly quality but how he fits in is another matter.
The Brazilian wasn’t first choice in Serie A last year but got some decent goal and assist tallies. He was, though, playing alongside Ciro Immobile, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto, whereas now he’ll be feeding a lower standard of player. He could be a star, or he could be frustrating, but he’s definitely an upgrade.
Jannik Vestergaard (Southampton)
The Danish centre-back will be a huge presence at the back for the Saints this year and could go a long way to replacing Virgil van Dijk if given the time. He’s not as good on the ball but you won’t beat him in the air that easily.
Just how will the Brazil star change the Red Devils’ central midfield? Will he maximise Paul Pogba and allow the Frenchman to push on, or will Jose Mourinho be unable to get it right? Either way, they have another threat at set-pieces.
We’ve been speaking about this deal for so long it felt like it might never happen, but here he is. The Guinean should add another dimension to the Reds’ midfield – if that’s even possible under Jurgen Klopp. A lot of the ball will go through him, towards the left of centre though, so how will it alter Mohamed Salah’s game?
Ricardo Pereira (Leicester City)
A right-back who once played as a winger, the Portuguese star is an outstanding upgrade on Danny Simpson. Tottenham Hotspur wanted this man ahead of Serge Aurier last summer such is his quality and it feels like the Foxes have got a gem – can he get at Manchester United’s left flank on Friday night?
Jean Michael Seri (Fulham)
The Ivorian was set to join Barcelona last summer and is now parked up at Craven Cottage. There was no dramatic loss in form, only a change of circumstance. He could prove the deal of the century if he thrives under Slavisa Jokanovic.
Up until November, the Brazilian was in sparkling form and one of the signings of last season. Then he went on an awful, despite looking somewhat effective. Marco Silva knows his quality but is he worth the huge outlay? A good start against Wolves will help ease concerns the Toffees paid too much.
Max Meyer (Crystal Palace)
Just for the Meyer of London puns we’re already loving this freebie signing. It’s a superb bit of business by the Eagles and should really liven up the midfield whether in an attacking role or the deeper one he took up last year at Schalke.
He’s not the midfielder Maurizio Sarri needs if he’s going to replicate his Napoli tactics at Stamford Bridge but the press-resistant Croatian is devilishly hard to get off the ball and he should see a lot of it alongside Jorginho. Is a season of Kovacic worth limiting Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s time for?
If you’ve never seen the most expensive goalkeeper in the world play a game of football, you aren’t the only one. And, as always, seeing a goalkeeper swap leagues is always interesting. Will he cope well with the physicality of the Premier League or will he wilt under the pressure? There is only one way to find out.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh (Brighton and Hove Albion)
Firstly, we can’t wait for the numerous pronunciations of the Iranian’s name but, also, seeing Eredivisie top goalscorers attempt to acclimatise in the Premier League is fascinating. He should add firepower to the right side of the Seagulls’ frontline and could give Watford a torrid time.
Jefferson Lerma (Bournemouth)
The Cherries have lacked bite for a while and have looked to rectify it by snapping up Colombian yellow card magnet Lerma. Does he have the ability to curtail opponents but not get sent off? We’ll see soon enough.
The Gunners have added technique and tenacity by stealing the Uruguayan away from Sampdoria. He’ll have his work cut out against Manchester City but if he can stem the tide then we’ll know Unai Emery has picked up a superb summer signing.
