Top 20 most expensive transfers in Europe’s top five leagues this summer

The transfer window across Europe slammed shut on Monday until January with dozens of deals completed by the deadline.

Across Europe’s top five leagues, 1903 deals were completed worth £5.24billion.

The transfer window for Premier League clubs shut before the season started in August while teams in Spain, Italy, France and Germany having longer to do their business.

English clubs could still sell but were not able to bring in replacements until the start of the next window.

There were several high profile deals that never materialised with Tottenham no doubt delighted that Christian Eriksen remains with them, for now.

Despite some not going through, there was still a huge amount of money changing hands with plenty of clubs wanting to get their business done early.

Here are the 20 top deals completed by teams in Europe’s top five leagues.
